A 22-year-old Hastings man was airlifted out of the Kaweka range in Hawke's Bay yesterday after spending an unexpected night in the bush.
A Lowe Corporation rescue helicopter spokesman said the man had planned a day trip to a mountain summit, leaving from the Napier-Taihape Rd, but became disoriented.
Family raised the alarm, having become concerned about snow and cold overnight conditions in the area.
The man was found after searchers made voice contact with him about midday.
Rescuers said he was in good health, hadn't panicked and was well prepared for a night in the bush.
