Political minnows the Libertarianz will today discuss merging with disgruntled Act supporters and even a cannabis reform group to form a liberal political party under a new brand to contest the next general election.
The party has its annual conference today in Auckland and leader Richard McGrath said Act's troubles in recent years presented as good a chance as Libertarianz had ever seen to consolidate themselves as a viable party.
"Act has slowly imploded for various reasons, I think John Banks is the last straw really for a lot of Act supporters."
Mr McGrath said Jim Owen of True Liberals - a group of disaffected Act supporters - would speak at today's conference where a merger would be discussed.
Also speaking was cannabis activist Dakta Green, who shared Libertarianz' belief in personal freedom.
