Disappointment for Wairarapa

There was disappointment for the Wairarapa teams at the premier national secondary schools hockey tournaments which got under way yesterday.
The Rankin Cup boys tourney in Napier saw the well fancied Wairarapa College side beaten 2-1 by Rangitoto College while at the Federation Cup girls tourney in Auckland both Wairarapa College and St Matthew's Collegiate tasted defeat as well, Wairarapa College 2-1 to Rangitoto College and St Matthew's Collegiate 4-2 to Kamo High.
Thev Wairarapa Hockey Association is hosting the Founders Cup tourney at Clareville and the highlight there was the commanding 9-0 win scored by Taradale over Aotea.
St Matthew's Collegiate had two wins in the A grade section of the Lower North Island netball tournament in Palmerston North but Wairarapa College lost both their games. Kuranui College, the strongest of the Wairarapa teams, is in the B grade and had two good wins there.
Soccer produced some excellent results for Wairarapa with Wairarapa College winning twice at both the Malcolm Cowie boys and Central Satellite girls tournaments and Rathkeale College winning their only game at the Trident Trophy boys event.
