Dinner and slide show cap memorable

It was a great weekend for the 100-year celebration for the club, with 120 (the maximum) attending the dinner.

Grant Smith provided a history of the club, and a slide show of past events and personalities was provided by present and past members and presented by John Braiden. In addition, there were several displays showing various club memorabilia.

Friday night was a "Meet and Greet" with many past and present members catching up with what has occurred in the intervening years. All guests were provided with a "bag of goodies" from sponsors, including a 'lift-out' from the Wairarapa Midweek Newspaper courtesy of the Times-Age.

Vets: The vets from Masterton GC were hosted. Usually a member from Carterton is paired with a member from Masterton. However, as only three turned up from Masterton the competition was an individual stableford. There was a good turnout with 39 players.

First with 39 points was Russ Sadler, followed by Frank Delaney, Garth Ramsden, Neil Stuart, Ash Braggins and Tim Carr all 38, Terry Courtney, Ray White and Wal McKnight 37, Kevin Hooper (Masterton), Ralph Day and Ken Prince 36, Max Baylis and Ray Morris 35, Martin Sears and Bill Shakespeare 34. There was only one two, scored by Tim Carr. NTPs: #12 John Barry, #16 in two Jim Harris.

Twilight: The tournament for the evening was American Foursomes. Brayden Mazey and Ben Bailey were the leading combination, next in line were Sarah Haskell and Greg Martin, Garry Spicer and Shayne Graves, James Morris and Ethan Morris, Simon Diplock and Graham Hutchby.

The annual Bucket tournament on Saturday was played in addition to the club's centennial celebrations. The tournament is always well supported and this year was no exception, with the addition of visitors attending the celebrations. A total of 104 players took part.

The women were split into two divisions. Division One (0 to 22) was won by Barbara Birchall with 42 stableford points, Pam Fitzgerald and Val Willis 39, Lynette Morrell, Corey Van Zanten and Lyn Batchelor 37, Valda Batchelor Masterton) and Gay Martin 36, Anne Barry and Jeanne Taylor 35, Lesley Sadler and Shirley Parkinson 34. Division two (22 plus) was lead by Flo Watkins with 43 stableford, Sue Braiden 39, Ngaire Taylor and Kate Keen 36, Pam Griffith (Masterton 35), Yvonne Baylis 34, Anne Brewer, Margaret Bradshaw and Bev Campbell (Kapiti) 33, Jo Trounson and Jennifer Ramsden 32 and Helen Kirk (Martinborough) 29.

The men were divided into three divisions. Division One (0 to 14) was won by Doug Clark of Martinborough with 46 points, Greg Martin 45, Brayden Mazey 43, David Sadler 42, Mike Newport 41, Eric Collings and Andy Richardson (Pahiatua) 40, Stu Ingham, Bill Crook (Martinborough) and David Wills 39, Lyn Evans and Peter Thompson (Te Awamutu) 37. Division Two (15 to 21) was won by a visitor from as far away as Waitomo with 43 points Erik Behringer (well worth the trip Erik!), followed by James Morris and Terry Courtney 42, Mark Graham 41, Piri Gillies, Russ Sadler and Dean Schaef 40, Allan Heffer 39, Wayne Taylor 38, George Rink 37, Garth Ramsden and John Barry 36. Division Three (22 plus) was won by David Hamilton, with 49 points, Colin Larsen 46, Trevor Clayton 44, Bill Shakespeare 43, Dave Pacey 42, Barry Bruwer and Wal McKnight 41, John Braiden and Duncan Pincock 40, John Kennedy 39, Ian Brinkworth 38 and Manie Bruwer 37.
