KEY POINTS:
A freight train has derailed after colliding with a digger at Whakamarama in the Western Bay of Plenty this afternoon.
Earlier, police reported that two passenger carriages were believed to have rolled but inspector Ian Brooker said that no passenger carriages were being towed by the train.
Mr Brooker said the driver of the digger received minor injuries.
Two freight carriages have been overturned on the track, Mr Brooker said.
