Police are investigating whether the boom arm of a digger which badly damaged an Auckland motorway bridge was too tall.
The Orams Road bridge, which crosses Auckland's southern motorway between Manurewa and Manukau City, will be closed for eight weeks after it was struck by the boom arm of the digger being towed along the motorway.
The New Zealand Transport Agency said the bridge required repairs and strengthening work were carried out.
Police and the NZTA were investigating whether the boom arm exceeded the legal height limit of 4.25m.
Information on possible detours can be obtained from Auckland Motorways on 09 5200200.
