A diesel spill stretching for about 15km on a Northland road has been mopped up this morning.
Police said the spill might have contributed to four separate crashes on Ngunguru Road East, north of Whangarei.
The slick road was discovered after 8am, with motorists warned to avoid the area or drive at extremely low speed if they had to.
It was dangerous between the Rockingham Rd intersection and Ngunguru township.
Inspector Kerry Watson said police asked the Whangarei District Council to attend and contain the diesel as a matter of urgency.
