The German car maker Audi has begun producing a synthetic 'diesel' made from water, carbon dioxide and hydrogen.
The e-diesel's use of CO2 as a raw material holds promise and is supported by the German government, which provided financial support for the pilot plant.
"If we can make widespread use of CO2 as a raw material, we will make a crucial contribution to climate protection and the efficient use of resources, and put the fundamentals of the 'green economy' in place," Johanna Wanka, Germany's minister of education and research.
