The radiographers' union has agreed to lift industrial action temporarily as it awaits a new offer from the district health boards (DHBs).
Apex, representing about 1000 medical radiation technicians (MRTs), and DHBs have been negotiating for months over a new contract.
Apex spokeswoman Bernadette Gourley told NZPA the industrial action was lifted as a goodwill gesture.
"The DHBs would not issue an offer formally until we lifted the strike action," she said.
Ms Gourley said members would be consulted as soon as possible once the offer was received.
DHB spokesperson Karen Roach said getting to this point had been a difficult journey.
"We are pleased that we are able to offer the radiographers an agreement that is affordable and is fair in comparison to agreements already reached with 90 per cent of the health workforce."
Apex wanted certain issues addressed like time in lieu for weekends, when members spent time doing continuing professional development, retraining and keeping up to date, and also pay parity for sonographers, who carry out ultrasound treatments.
The DHBs will formally tender the offer to the union tomorrow.
