A body washed up at Devonport on Auckland's North Shore this morning lay on a beach visible to hundreds of ferry commuters on their way to work.
Police Northern Communications spokesperson Inspector Ian Booker said police were called about 6am after the man's body was found on the beach about 80m west of the ferry wharf.
He said the death was "unexplained", but it did not appear suspicious.
Police remain at the scene.
