It wasn't so much the decisiveness of the win but the style of victory which pleased management of the Wairarapa United development men's soccer team most in their Wairarapa championship match with McAuley's Masterton on Sunday.
Wairarapa United won 5-0 and impressed with their swift movement of the ball and support play.
So much so that Phil Keinzley, coach of Wairarapa United's premier team, was moved to say they had played as well, if not better, than his side had in their 2-0 win over Lower Hutt in a Capital division one competition game the previous day.
"They were very controlled. There was a really confident look about their game," he said. "A lot of them showed they could play at a higher level no problem and that's what we wanted to see".
Midfielder Anton Ross scored two of the Wairarapa United goals and was a livewire on both attack and defence while other youngsters to shine were defender Aaron Spierling and Jamie Coleman, who also scored two goals.
The Wairarapa United side also benefited immensely from the experience of Chris Holden, Paolo Frisone and Alan Wellbrock.
