KEY POINTS:
Tauranga police say there have been "significant developments" in regard to their homicide investigation of the disappearance of Darrell James Crawford and William Taikato.
Mr Crawford, 35, was last seen in August 2007, and Mr Taikato, 40, in December. The pair knew each other and had associates in common.
Police would hold a media conference regarding the cases at Tauranga police station on Monday but would not comment further until then, Detective Inspector Rob Jones said.
Police have previously said both men were involved with drugs and gangs and at one stage a $50,000 reward was offered in each case for information leading to the conviction of their killer.
Intensive ground searches were carried out for the men in July after information was received from the public and police have been urging anyone with further information about the pair to come forward.
