Police have arrested a 28-year-old Tokoroa man after the death of a 45-year-old woman, and in Taumarunui detectives are investigating the death of a woman found in a bath.
Detective Inspector Graham Bell said Eliza Te Hiko was found dead in a house in Benella St, Tokoroa, early yesterday.
The Tokoroa man was arrested and charged with assault.
Police believe the woman was at a hotel in nearby Putaruru during the evening before returning to the Benella St house where her body was found.
Mr Bell said police also believed the woman might have walked from the hotel to an address in Bent St, Putaruru.
Yesterday, police taped off the Bent St and Benella St houses and another in Park Ave, Tokoroa.
The woman's body was taken during the afternoon for an autopsy.
Relatives who turned up to the house were angry and upset.
Police do not believe she died at the Benella St house but would not give more details.
The woman found dead in a house in Taumarunui was Camella Aroha Oneroa, of Taumarunui.
The 28-year-old was found in the Para St house about 2.30 yesterday morning. It is understand she appeared to have drowned in the bath.
Inspector Don Allan said the post-mortem examination, being done at New Plymouth Hospital, would not be completed until today.
The cause of death had not yet been established, he said.
He said the investigation was not yet a homicide inquiry, but the death was being treated as suspicious.
About 20 police are working on the Tokoroa death and about 10 on the Taumarunui death.
