Unedited footage of the "Battle of Baghak", which reveals the confusion and danger facing New Zealand troops during a fierce firefight that killed two Kiwi soldiers, has emerged.
The expletive-laden clip, which lasts 10 minutes and 49 seconds, is taken from a handheld camera by a member of the Crib 20 deployment, and was posted to YouTube this week.
The unit is caught in a valley with insurgents retreating into the steep terrain around them.
Orders and expletives are heard being shouted over the gunfire, and the terrifying sound of heavy artillery crackles around the forces. The officer in charge tells his troops: "Beware, there are NDS up there", referring to the friendly Afghan National Directorate of Security.
"Yeeyah, f****** get some bitches," says a female soldier as the Kiwis return fire.
