Destiny Church is accusing Transit New Zealand of double standards, in allowing a foreshore and seabed hikoi to cross the Auckland Harbour Bridge, but not its members.
The roading agency says the church has indicated 20,000 people will join its march against the Civil Union Act and other recent laws, planned for the first Saturday in March. It says that number of people would damage the bridge's structure.
But Destiny pastor Andrew Stock says it never put the figure forward and Transit has never met with the church.
Two thousand people marched on last year's hikoi.
Mr Stock says the church gave Transit four months' notice that it wanted to walk over the bridge, unlike last year's seabed hikoi, where he claims marchers virtually just turned up.
He also claims the church was not told directly about Transit's decision and only found out through the media.
The church still wants its protest to go ahead.
