The Desert Road has reopened after a truck carrying a load of aerosol can burst into flames early today.
Firefighters were called to the central North Island blaze near the winding Three Sisters segment of the road about 1.45am, a Fire Service central communications spokesman said.
The highway was reduced to one lane while firemen fought the fire and cleared up the debris. It was fully reopened around 8am.
