KEY POINTS:
The descendant of a 19th-century couple whose lives were the basis of a historical novel by New Zealand author Fiona Kidman has complained to the Broadcasting Standards Authority about a serialised reading of the story on radio.
Last year, Radio New Zealand's Nine to Noon programme broadcast a 15-part reading of the novel The Captive Wife. Gilbert Guard, a direct descendant of the couple, took issue with the series.
He said the dialogue was "explicitly pornographic and highly offensive" to both him and other direct descendants. The authority declined to uphold his complaint.
