Nearly 18,000 people suffering from depression have registered for an online programme fronted by former All Black John Kirwan.
Associate Health Minister Jonathan Coleman said The Journal was aimed at managing mild to moderate depression.
Dr Coleman said more than 10,000 people were actively using it and were reporting decreased symptoms.
Dr Lyndy Matthews, consultant to the National Depression Initiative, said she believed the next step was for doctors to prescribe depression.org.nz and The Journal as a way of treating depression.
