Delta Goodrem concert paused for Tauranga woman

When Australian songstress Delta Goodrem performed in Auckland, they delayed the show for 20 minutes while waiting for the arrival of a very special fan.

Karen Crotty won tickets to see her idol through radio station The Hits and had been eagerly looking forward to the concert on Monday night. But when the double amputee's travel plans fell through that afternoon, she was heartbroken.

However, a ring-around the radio station meant Ms Crotty was able to fly up to Auckland that evening to make the 8pm show.

Tauranga presenter Will Johnston said Ms Crotty touched down at 7.20pm in Auckland and was rolling through the crowd at the concert at 8.20pm.

They held the show for her," he said.

"I am so stoked we made it happen."

Ms Crotty was able to meet Goodrem and even score a high-five.

''At the beginning of the concert Delta lent down over the stage and said: 'Hi Karen, you're going to sing with me aren't you?' "

"I said try and stop me, and she high-fived me."

Ms Crotty said she had been listening to Delta Goodrem's music since she first appeared on the music scene.

"I've listened to her latest album 52 times. I go to sleep every night with an angel singing between my ears and I got to say that to her.

"My dreams all came true. To meet someone so grounded and so real, she's so beautiful in every meaning of the word."

Ms Crotty said she was overwhelmed by the whole experience, it was a dream come true.

"I can't thank [people] enough. I had the time of my life. She's such an inspiration to me."

Goodrem, who has been in show business since she was 14, was in Auckland doing a free concert for iHeartRadio.

Goodrem told NZME she was honoured to meet Ms Crotty.

''Sometimes I walk away from people and I hope they know I heard them,'' she said.

''I always keep to myself that I hope they really know the love is reciprocated ... I really don't take it for granted when people have taken me into their heart.

''I also understand what music can be in the moments when you really need it. I hope she knows how I feel honoured that she would feel I would be part of her and give her strength.''

Goodrem might be best known now as a coach on Australia's version of The Voice, but she was signed to her first label at just 15 years old and has been releasing her own music ever since.

She's had multiple No 1 singles on the Aria singles charts and won handfuls of awards, including the MTV Video Music Awards, World Music Awards and Aria Music Awards. She has sold more than 8 million albums globally.

Goodrem's fifth studio album, Wings of the Wild, was released on July 1 with its first single, Wings, hitting No 1 on the Aria charts and becoming certified platinum.
