A crash involving up to six cars has slowed traffic on the Southern Motorway in Auckland today.

Emergency services were called to the incident near the Panama Rd overbridge on State Highway 1 about 12.15pm, Northern Police spokesman Kerry Watson said.

Witnesses said the crash involved multiple vehicles - with reports of a three-car or six-car crash coming in, Mr Watson said.

The incident had blocked the right north-bound lane.

"It may have involved about three cars...but could have involved up to six cars.

"Most of the reports say there were no injuries. If it was no injury or minimal injury, it won't take them long to clear it," Mr Watson said.

One person received moderate injuries in the crash, St John Ambulance spokesman Robbie Walker said.

The patient had not been transported to hospital and was still being assessed on the scene, he said.
