Shoring up their defence will be a prime objective for the Wairarapa United under-19 men's soccer team in their Ivan England Trophy match with Wainuiomata at Howard Booth Park, Carterton tomorrow.
Coach Phil Keinzley was disappointed Wairarapa United let in two goals in their narrow 3-2 win over Porirua City last weekend, a victory which guaranteed they would win the B section of the competition and be involved in a promotion-relegation match with the bottom-placed A section side later in the month.
"We did have a few defensive lapses and we need to correct those tomorrow," Keinzley said.
The last time Wairarapa United met Wainuiomata they scored a handsome 5-0 win but with some of their regulars missing tomorrow's game because of other commitments a closer result seems likely on this occasion.
Keinzley, however, still expects them to maintain their unbeaten record, saying the game would give the bench players the opportunity to have more match time and they be would keen to impress,
"We've always considered ourselves to have good depth and this is the chance to prove it," he said.
Also being played tomorrow are two finals in the Wairarapa league knockout competitions.
Playing off for the main championship are Carterton and Douglas Villa while the plate final is between Rathkeale and Featherston.
