Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee to host Australian counterpart

Defence ministers from New Zealand and Australia will meet in Auckland tomorrow to discuss international security matters.

Gerry Brownlee will host Australian counterpart Kevin Andrews at the Devonport Naval Base for their annual catch-up.

The ministers would discuss a range of regional and international security issues, including both countries' responses to the fight against Isis, a statement from Mr Brownlee's office said.

The ministers would also tour the Devonport base and address media at a joint press conference in the afternoon.

New Zealand and Australia are already working closely together in the Middle East.

Both nations are part of a troop training mission at Camp Taji, just north of Baghdad in Iraq, which involves a total of 143 NZ Defence Force personnel.

"I am looking forward to talking with Minister Andrews on a number of important, topical issues," Mr Brownlee said.

"Australia is our closest security and trade partner and it is important that we stay closely in touch on key international defence and security issues."
