Defaults have marred the Wairarapa regional one tennis competition this season, and Saturday's final series of preliminary round matches was no exception.
Pirinoa went into this round as a clear leader on the points table but their default to Opaki dropped them to third. They had three points deducted from their previous total of 42 while Opaki gained five points for the win.
Gladstone, which beat Masterton 5-4 on Saturday, ended up topping the table with 43 points, followed by Masterton 41, Pirinoa 39, Martinborough 35 and Opaki 27.
The Gladstone v Masterton match was a tight affair with Gladstone coming out of the singles 4-2 ahead but Masterton having the edge in the doubles.

Men's singles: Chris Schofield lost to Ian Jurcyluk 1-6, 3-6; Alistair McWilliam beat Matt Bunny 6-4, 6-4; Angus Preston beat Greg Williams 6-3, 4-6, 7-6; Peter Morriss beat George Passi 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Women's singles: Natasha Robinson lost to Brooke Candy 3-6, 1-6; Jo Booth beat Zoey Paris 6-4, 6-3.
Men's doubles: Schofield and McWilliam beat Jurcyluk 6-2, 6-3; Preston and Morriss lost to Williams and Passi 4-6, 5-7.
Women's doubles: Robinson and Booth lost to Candy and Paris 2-6, 4-6.
Gladstone play Martinborough and Pirinoa play Masterton in next weekend's semifinals.
