A deep moderate earthquake has been felt throughout central New Zealand early this morning.
Geonet said the magnitude 4.9 quake, which struck at 1.19am, was centred within 5km of Wanganui at a depth of 100km.
Geonet received reports the quake was felt throughout the lower North Island and the top of the South Island, however no damage was expected.
The quake followed a very deep magnitude 5 earthquake in the Taranaki last night.
It struck at 9.07pm, 40km south of New Plymouth at a depth of 330km.
