Deep quake rumbles central North Island

A deep earthquake has shaken residents in the central North Island today.

The 5.2 magnitude tremor hit 20km west of Rotorua at 3.59pm, GNS Science said. It was 170km deep.

The quake was probably felt in east-central North Island, GNS said.
