A magnitude 5 earthquake has struck deep beneath the Taupo region this morning, GNS Science reports.
The quake struck at 6.36am, 20km south of Mangakino and 30km northwest of Taupo, at a depth of 150km.
Geonet has not yet received any reports the quake was felt.
