KEY POINTS:
The family of the 16-month-old boy who died after being in the care of a relative last week are still waiting to learn if charges will be laid.
Sachin Dhani died from head injuries in the Starship hospital after his life support was turned off on Thursday. He had been rushed to hospital two days earlier after being critically injured at relatives' Mt Wellington home.
The boy's uncle has told neighbours the child was injured after falling off the couch and hitting his head on a coffee table.
Police launched a major inquiry on Tuesday night after doctors told them his injuries did not match the story given by the relatives.
A post-mortem examination showed Sachin died from blunt-force trauma to the head.
It is understood police will wait for full autopsy results before deciding whether to lay charges.
Cordons around the Mt Wellington home were lifted on Saturday afternoon.
Neighbours said the relatives returned home briefly yesterday.
They had been asked by police to stay away from the Starship while Sachin was on life-support but were at his funeral on Saturday with their twin boys, believed to be aged 4.
