KEY POINTS:
A man died after falling almost 6m from a building site in Lower Hutt after a "short cut" in work procedure, a coroner has found. Dion Robert Dyke, 35, fell 5.6m on May 3, 2006.
He suffered a head injury and died in Wellington Hospital on May 19 after life-support was removed. Wellington coroner Garry Evans said he was satisfied Mr Dyke's employer, Armstrong Downes, took all practicable steps to ensure the safety of its employees.
"The evidence establishes that Mr Dyke, sadly, took a short cut in work procedure ... and that had he followed the safe working procedure laid down by the company, he would not have fallen."
