The deaths of two women who were found in a house in Titahi Bay, north of Wellington, this morning are being treated as homicide, police say.
However, the investigation was in its early stages and the cause of death had not yet been determined, Detective Inspector Shane Cotter said.
Police were called to the Morere St house in the Porirua suburb just before 11am.
"We'd like to hear from anyone that heard or saw anything suspicious between 10pm last night and 10am this morning" Mr Cotter said.
Street cordons remained in place, and police were still examining the scene.
The women's bodies remained in the house and their identities would not be released until next of kin had been advised, he said.
Police would not say whether any arrests had been made, or who else had been in the house at the time.
However, people near the house said a man and two young children had been there at the time, Radio New Zealand reported.
The women had lived at the house for some time.
