Police have launched a murder inquiry after the discovery of a body in a home in Papakura.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Pizzini said a woman's body had been found at the Cargill St property yesterday afternoon.
Mr Pizzini said a female relative of the woman had called police after finding the body.
He would not confirm the woman's age because some family members had not yet been told of her death, nor would he comment on any injuries.
They knew who the woman was and a post mortem examination would be carried out today to find out how she died.
Police were conducting area inquiries and speaking to family members last night.
Mr Pizzini would not say how long the woman was believed to have been dead but said the focus of the inquiry was on any activity that had occurred at the home yesterday.
