The wartime execution of English nurse Edith Cavell was commemorated in Arthurs Point yesterday - a hundred years after she was killed.
She was shot by a German firing squad on October 12, 1915, for helping Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium.
The ceremony took place at Arthurs Point, beneath a bridge bearing Cavell's name.
The service was officiated by St Peter's Parish Queenstown vicar the Rev Chris Tweddell, Ngai Tahu Tourism southern regional manager David Kennedy, piper Blair Rodger and Queenstown RSA president Lyall McGregor.
