The scene of the head-on car crash five kilometres from Pahiatua on July 25 that killed Cheyenne Ihaka, 16, and left Sheree Painter seriously injured.
A 17-year-old Eketahuna man pleaded not guilty in the Palmerston North District Court on Tuesday to careless driving causing death in a crash which killed a teenager and seriously injured a woman.
Norman John Harris is also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice, following a two-car collision
on State Highway 2 about 5km south of Pahiatua on July 23.
Police allege Cheyenne Ihaka, 17, who died at the scene, was the passenger and Harris was the driver.
Midwife Sheree Painter, in the other car, received serious leg and abdominal injuries in the crash.
Harris will reappear in court in February.
