Death after clifftop fall in Mairangi Bay, Auckland

A person has died after falling from a cliff in the Auckland suburb of Mairangi Bay.

Emergency services responded to the incident around 4.50pm.

"Sadly the person died as a result of the fall," police said in a statement.

"Police cannot provide any further details at this stage, while next of kin notifications take place."

Several police cars and at least two ambulances attended the incident. The Police Eagle Helicopter was also seen hovering in the area but has now left the scene.

A person at the scene said they saw ambulance officers walking around the cliff carrying a stretcher and a white sheet.

Part of the walkway between Campbell's Bay and Mairangi Bay has been blocked off.
