KEY POINTS:
Some people turned up for an open day at St Andrews Retirement Village in Auckland yesterday despite an outbreak of the potentially deadly norovirus.
Two elderly patients in the hospital wing of the Village have died after contracting the virus and another 18 have fallen ill.
A spokeswoman for the retirement home says more than 27 groups came to their open day yesterday, half the number they were expecting.
Medical Officer of Health Dr Greg Simmons has said public health officers will make sure every measure is being taken to prevent further spread.
He says it is important to make sure everyone has good hand hygiene, there are signs up and visitors are discouraged from attending.
