KEY POINTS:
The teenage motorcyclist killed when his machine hit a car yesterday was Dallas Apanui, 15, from Opotiki in the eastern Bay of Plenty.
Police said the accident happened when the youth tried to cross from one side of SH1 at Otara, near Opotiki, and hit an oncoming car.
The Whakatane police serious crash unit was investigating the accident which brought the number of road deaths in the eastern Bay of Plenty this year to 12.
