Dead teens named

Two Waiouru teenagers were killed when their car crashed head on with another vehicle north of Taupo on State Highway 1 yesterday afternoon.

Police said Quinn Robertson, 19 and Corey Jason Topham, 16, died instantly in the crash.

Taupo police Senior Constable Peter Sowter yesterday said the Datsun car the two were travelling south in appeared to have been sliding sideways out of control.
"Excessive speed on the part of this car is believed to be the principle reason for the loss of control."

The 55-year-old female occupant of the northbound vehicle was flown by rescue helicopter to Waikato Hospital with serious chest and pelvic injuries.
