Two dead rats were responsible for contaminating the water supply of a small town in the Waikato.
Residents in the Tauwhare Eureka area have had little or no water supply after contaminants were spotted in the reservoir yesterday.
Waikato District Council General manager of water Richard Bax says the process of sterilising the tank is underway, and normal services should be restored by Friday.
He says in the meantime, residents should continue to boil their drinking water and minimise water use.
