A Hutt Valley woman has been remanded in custody after appearing in court today charged with the murder of her newborn daughter.
The 21-year-old Taita woman was granted interim name suppression when she made a brief appearance at Lower Hutt District Court.
She was remanded to an address that was also suppressed and will reappear on October 2.
The body of the infant, believed to be less than a day old, was found wrapped in a towel at a Taita Drive property last Monday.
A woman in her 60s found the baby's body in her back yard as she went to hang out her washing.
