KEY POINTS:
The man killed when two cars crashed in Hamilton shortly before midnight was Aaron Mark Lambert, 18, a farm hand from Ngaroma near Otorohanga.
He was the driver of one of the two cars which crashed in Clyde Street.
Two others were taken to Waikato Hospital seriously hurt but police said they did not appear to have life-threatening injuries.
The crash happened on Clyde Street just before midnight and blocked the street for several hours.
The dead man was the driver of one of the cars and police said although they believed they knew his identity, he had to be formally identified before his name could be released.
Speed was believed to have been a factor but police said it was too soon to say if alcohol also contributed.
