A cyclist killed in a collision with a logging truck in the Bay of Plenty is thought to have been an overseas tourist visiting the area.
The 38-year-old man died on the way to Tauranga Hospital after the accident on State Highway 2 near Te Puke at 5.45pm yesterday.
Bay of Plenty officer in charge of road policing Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said the cyclist and fully laden truck and trailer unit were heading in the same direction. It was not yet known what had caused the collision.
Police were calling for any witnesses and said the name of the deceased would not be released until they were told by the man's consulate that his family had been contacted.
