Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a five-week-old baby from head injuries.
Jayrhis Ian Te Koha Lock-Tata was taken to Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland after being admitted to Taupo Hospital last week, but died on Saturday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said a post-mortem examination had established that the baby died from non-accidental injuries.
Mr Turner said Jayrhis had received the injuries before being admitted to Taupo Hospital on March 5.
He said 14 Bay of Plenty investigators were working closely with Jayrhis' family to establish how the baby died.
