De Li, 18, from China was known as Luca in New Zealand.
He attended a New Zealand high school and wanted to further improve his English and have a "typical English accent" so was taking lessons at the King's Education language school in the CTV building, which collapsed in the earthquake.
De Li loved boxing, swimming, piano and guitar.
