Wairarapa residents are being warned to be vigilant after a recent spate of rural burglaries, mostly carried out during the day.
There had been an increase in burglaries in the past five weeks, with fuel, televisions, motorbikes and alcohol the target, along with cash, Detective Sergeant Rick Joblin said today.
"Wairarapa police are doing all we can to investigate these burglaries but we do require help from the community," he said. "If you see people or vehicles acting suspiciously, note down the registration number and any other details and call police or Crimestoppers."
Establishing a Neighbourhood Support group was another way to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime, he said.
