Daylight hours increase as spring equinox nears

The spring equinox - when the sun returns from the northern hemisphere to the southern hemisphere - is at 10.23am next Friday.

Astronomer Brian Carter of Wellington's Carter Observatory said daylight hours were increasing by about three minutes a day at the moment - "the greatest increase in the year".
