A man armed with a handgun demanded cigarettes and cash from Hamilton store this morning.
The incident occurred about 9.30am in a store on Grey St, near the intersection of Albert and Wellington Streets, after reports a man had threatened a female shop attendant with a firearm, a police spokesman said.
Police are retrieving security camera footage in the search for the man.
He had what appeared to be a handgun in his pocket and fled on foot.
The man, thought to be in his teens, was dressed in dark clothes and a beanie.
Police appealed for the public's help to find him.
