Daycare destroyed in blaze

Fire destroyed a daycare and holiday programme centre in Auckland's New Lynn last night. Fifteen fire appliances and 45 firefighters battled the blaze at Planet Kids.

Fire Service northern communications centre shift manager Scott Osmond also confirmed asbestos was found in the roof of the building.

Planet Kids owner Mark Stitt said the fire had left them "high and dry" in the school holidays.

"We're a little bit lost at the moment, we're not sure what we are going to do. It's quite a shock."
