The Islam Open Day held at Aotea Square in central Auckland yesterday aimed to allow people to discover the world of Islam from different perspectives and featured exhibitions on art, religion, science, history, society and culture as well as food and clothing stalls.
The open day marked the end of Islam Awareness Week, presented by the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand.
The internationally recognised event celebrates the positive relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims.
Last week events were held across New Zealand in mosques, Islamic centres, universities and community spaces aiming to give insight into Islam and the Muslim community.
The events were a platform for Muslims to dispel common misconceptions in society as well as a way to celebrate their own uniqueness and contributions to the wider community.
