No evidence from witnesses.
Tuesday, April 28
The day is dominated by evidence from a former friend and a former girlfriend of David Bain, who testify about conversations they had with Bain before and after the deaths of his family.
The friend tells how Bain spoke about premonitions, and that a few days before the murders Bain said he thought something horrible was going to happen.
The former girlfriend describes how Bain "zoned out" at a concert they went to and how it took a while to get him to come out of it. Bain says this spacing out may have happened in a 20-minute period he cannot account for on the morning of the murders.
The girlfriend describes how before the deaths Bain gave her a red rose and a poem "giving his heart", and recalls how Bain cried as he watched the movie Schindler's List.

Bain's uncle John Boyd tells of a conversation in which Bain said the killings must have been committed by himself, his father or someone from outside the family home. Bain then agreed it could not have been someone from the house. Bain said "if" it was his father, he could never forgive him.
High school teacher Paul Hewson talks about conversations with Bain's sister Laniet, in which she told him she was raped in Papua New Guinea, had a baby, had an abortion, and attempted suicide.
Prison officer Thomas Samuel tells how he saw scratches on Bain's body during a strip-search, which the prosecution say he got during a bloody struggle with his brother, Stephen, and the defence say he must have got after the family were killed.
Thursday, April 30
Bain's uncle Michael Bain tells how he visited David in prison soon after his arrest and asked him if he killed the family. He says David did not confirm or deny he was the killer, but said he would stick to the version of events he gave to the police.
Bain's aunt Valerie Boyd says Bain told her after the killings that he hated his father, found him "sneaky" and wanted him out of the family home. She says Bain detailed plans for his family's funeral, down to the "superbra" his sister Arawa should be dressed in.
