It is not yet known what David Bain will do with some of the exhibits from his trial which he wants returned.
The 37-year-old was cleared earlier this year of fatally shooting the five members of his family in their Dunedin home in 1994.
His lawyer has applied to get back some of the hundreds of exhibits, including the rifle used in the killings.
Supporter Joe Karam has rejected suggestions the items would be put in a museum. He says a large number are David Bain's personal possessions and what he wants to do with them is up to him.
Bain spent 13 years in jail for the murders before being found not guilty at a retrial. He is currently overseas, trying to rebuild his life.
