A DISAPPOINTING field of just 13 cars contested this year's Admiral Road hillclimb, run by the Wairarapa Car Club.
In its heyday "the Admiral" would attract fields of 30 or more, which often meant drivers had to wait for up to an hour for a run.
On Sunday, with the field depleted by the annual Whittakers MG Car Club classics day at Manfeild, the drivers at least had plenty of action, including an extra, unoffical, run.
Conditions were excellent.
Late-model Mitsubishi Lancers took the first three places overall, with winner Scott Kreyl, from the Manawatu club, fastest at 53.32s in his Evo 8. Kapiti driver Brian Sheridan, in an Evo 9, was not far behind in 53.65s, while another Kapiti man, Adam Bligh, was third.
Fastest of the locals was Spike Taylor, driving his 1100cc Star touring car.
